Basement Renovation

Basement Renovation Considerations

The basement, often overlooked, is a canvas awaiting your personal touch. It’s a space where your passions and dreams can come to life in vivid detail. Imagine descending the stairs to find a bespoke cocktail bar that rivals a speakeasy. Or maybe, stepping into a high-end theater available on demand. Does your vision leans towards wellness? You can transform the space into an in-home fitness center. Maybe creating a cozy family space or an in-law suite brings comfort and privacy with the warmth of home. In the basement, the possibilities for style and personal expression are limitless.

01.
To Consider

Will your new basement be accessible from the interior of the house, or will you have a separate entrance? Of course, if you think of it as an added space to your living quarters – no separate entrance will be needed. However, if you plan to rent it out as an independent unit, it will require a separate entrance.

02.
Building Permits

Before starting your basement renovation, you will need a building permit. Even though it is your own house, major alterations to its structure need a building permit. This is to make sure that the new construction will not compromise the integrity of the building. If you are not sure where to start, your Bost Construction team will be able to help.

03.
Height Requirements

The building code requires a height of the finished basement to be 7-feet. Of course, you will have to have extra space factored in to allow for ceiling drywall, vents, and flooring. This is a limitation for older homes but not a show stopper!

04.
The Value

Renovating your basement offer one of the highest returns on investment. But it also transforms an often overlooked space into a vibrant area for personal enjoyment and utility. Don't miss out on the chance to enhance your home's function and financial valuation!
